Ībsolution is an alternative rock, hard rock, and art rock album. Bellamy said that the band made a "conscious decision" to "get together in a room and make music", setting aside time to record the album, as previous albums' recording sessions were 'hastily arranged' and rushed. The album was recorded in studios in both Los Angeles and London. The band spent much of 2002 recording Absolution with producer Rich Costey. I think it's just suggesting that the act of making music is a way of understanding things." Writing and composition In April 2004, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy stated "I think the absolution is not necessarily a religious word: "It has meanings of purity ( absolute), but it's not necessarily talking from a Christian or any particular religious point of view. (Muse's previous album, Origin of Symmetry, and their subsequent release, Black Holes and Revelations, also appeared in the top fifty).
In 2009, it was voted by Kerrang! as the second-best album of the 21st century thus far. It also yielded the band's first top 10 single hit, with " Time Is Running Out" peaking at number 8 in the UK Singles Chart. The album reached number one in the UK Albums Chart. Absolution has a noticeably darker and heavier tone musically, with a lyrical focus on the theological and apocalyptic concepts. The album followed up on Origin of Symmetry 's diverse musical tendencies and elaborate sound, while also having a more focused and consistent theme and aesthetic throughout. It was released on 15 September 2003 in Japan, 22 September 2003 in the United Kingdom by East West Records and Taste Media and 23 March 2004 in the United States by Warner Bros. Roughly how long have you been listening to Muse?Ī fairly wide selection of votes, spare for none of the very old-timers!Īlso those 3 who said they had only been listening for less than a year all voted favourably for OoS/Absolution/BH&R.Absolution is the third studio album by English alternative rock band Muse. However 3 also rated this song as one of their favourites, so each to their own! The wooden spoon 'zero' vote was 'awarded' only once this time, with Spiral Static being the unlucky recipient.
Similar to Q2 but this time scoring the 4 'Japanese Bonus Tracks' that appeared on Showbiz (Spiral Static), OoS (Futurism), Absolution (Fury) and BH&R (Glorious), with the results as follows:ĭespite being third, Fury had the most "one of my favourite songs" votes.ġ1 had never really listened to Spiral Static, 5 saying the same for Futurism, 4 saying the same for Fury and 1 saying the same for Glorious. Therefore these were not scored so as to keep the average scores accurate. The wooden spoon of a zero score got dished out only twice by 2 different musers - once for The 2nd Law and once for Simulation Theory.ġ2 said they haven't really listened to Hullabaloo, with 2 saying the same for Showbiz. It surprised me to see OoS in 3rd place with the top 3 so close! All said they thought Absolution and BH&R was either a Masterpiece or Great, with the same said for OoS spare for a single "average" vote. I've seen debate before on which 3 albums from Showbiz / OoS / Absolution / BH&R are generally accepted to make muse's 'holy trinity', but it looks pretty clear now. This question gives the opportunity to score each album on a scale of 0 to 4 (0 is disliking every song whereas 4 is liking every song). Someone on another thread said Origin of Symmetry would easily win as it always does - maybe times are changing? The 'pick 1 album and 1 album only as your favourite album' question, and the winner is.
Which is your favourite studio album overall?
Thanks for those who took part! After 1 week and 55 responses (I thought there'd be more but someone suggested on another thread there's too many of these surveys these days?), the results are in. Yes I've spent way too much time on this!Ī week ago you may have seen I made a survey to find out Musers opinions on the albums and Japanese bonus tracks!
